We landed in Phuket in the afternoon around 3pm local time, took a taxi and after about an hour we found ourselves at the entrance to Patong. The first impressions I got were the hundreds of mopeds that had taken over absolutely the whole traffic on the streets. I could not see how the bus would cross the street to turn. It was quite a while until we found ourselves in front of the reception of our reserved hotel...in the mountains. So far so good, but the fun part for you and not so much for us at that point was to come. Our paperwork was processed and we headed to the room we were to stay in for almost a week. It turned out that our room was surrounded by tall foliage of indistinct origin, almost no access, out that our room was surrounded by high greenery of origin unknown to us, almost without access, complete darkness and lack of light.
To top it off, instead of 2 twin beds, the only available option in the hotel was...a bedroom. Of course, we asked for an extra bed, we were two men after all. They brought some old made up bed. Somehow we accepted the problem temporarily, but to top it off, we found that we had no electricity at night. The whole night turned into a nightmare and almost sleepless and early the next morning we wrote to Bookings.com who kindly and without further argument, changed our hotel to another in the same area which was comfortable and on a completely different level. Lest things seem even more dramatic, we'll admit that our overnight stay at the first hotel was very short as we got home late and on short notice. In almost the entire time from our check-in to the next morning, we had conquered the night. You can guess where, right? We were the main characters in a non-stop party on Bangla Road. Also known to us as Merry Street. For those who don't know, we'll do a brief introduction to its sidelines. Bangla Road is the main street in Phuket's most touristy area, namely Patong. About 400 meters long, it is just packed with bars and restaurants where you can hear different styles of music, and the parties go on until late. A lot of male tourists also meet their great love there...albeit for one night. The next night is another, but these are just details of the scenery. So, my friend and I ended up there, and after a few laps around the street and looking with incessant curiosity at what was going on at each spot, I can't help but point out 2 bars that I highly recommend to everyone. The first is called Tiger Bar, which is 24 pylons arranged in the shape of a rectangle in a self-contained bar. The second place is one of the most famous strip bars in the world, namely Suzy Wong. Cult places you should not miss. Driven by problems at the hotel we were staying at, we couldn't fully relax in the crowd, but there was time to catch up.
