37. After a day of rest from excursions and a time of active relaxation and walks in Lamai, it was time to

plan our second excursion to Namuang Safari Park came. We used to alternate rest days with excursions, which took up most of our day and were too exhausting. In order not to miss something important, the day before we had seen the centre of Lamai, had dinner there local fish specialities, and the afternoon we had devoted to the notorious rock of the island in the shape of a man's penis. The next day it was just the two of us, with no our friends, we went on a day trip to Namuang Safari Park. Once at my first visit to Thailand I was not fascinated by the elephant ride, now I had to do it in order satisfy my mate's desire. This episode is documented in a second family photo that adorns our abode. Before the planned 30-minute ride with the elephant, we took a ride on a huge jeep, that the tour groups were moving around in, and the drivers clearly had a point to prove what amazing drivers they are and get our adrenaline going before we got on the the elephant. They drove so crazily over a road filled with bumps and climbing areas that we were visibly dizzy. Among other things, there little ones were flying all over the park with tourist buggies, which added to the huge noise in this part of the island. We waited a bit for our turn and soon we were called to board onto a high platform from which we were to ride the elephant. I shall never ever forget how they were selling mini bananas there, which were about a dozen to a bundle. The idea was to feed the elephant while the 30-minute trek took place. This appealed to us as an opportunity and we bought two bundles. Already with the boarding, I mistakenly stepped in an area near the head, which caused some discomfort to the animal. Everything soon calmed down, we took our places on the bench specially installed on his back, and on his head sat a native Thai, who held in his hand a long and thick metal skewer, with which to control the elephant from sticking its trunk back and harming us. The walk began, but the elephant proved to be a bit nervous and often disobeyed the issued orders. To me personally, this behavior was a signal of impending trouble. first few minutes there was also a moment of friendliness as we handed in the the elephant's trunk a banana at every reach he made towards us, so we were taught. At one point we ran out of bananas, and on the next cast of the proboscis, there was nothing to give him. Something in me twitched at that moment and I was terribly worried very much. I managed to super quickly warn my wife not to make false movements, as we had no more bananas, and with this nervousness not to risk the elephant to think we were trying to play with him and purposely handing him empty hands. The situation did not look peaceful at all, despite all, we continued the trekking. Sports buggies, which were part of the tourist attraction in the park, started sweeping around us at high speed and started making noise. The elephant became more and more tense and the boy sitting on it temporarily diverted it until the buggies got past and left it some time to calm down. Apparently, all of us wanted it to be like that, but alas. A few meters after the resumed trekking the boy stopped and got down. He offered us to make a photo which they would sell to us in a special frame and we agreed. The elephant kept on behaving nervously and did not want to stay peacefully. I felt that my blood pressure was getting higher slowly but surely. Then I asked the boy to get on quickly and to finish our trekking earlier, a bit after the 10th minute. He stepped towards the elephant and tried to climb. In a peaceful situation the elephant usually stretches its paw and lifts its guide with its leg helping him to climb up. At that moment, however, that did not happen. The elephant refused to assist the boy and it kept on raving. With a couple of words, probably in Thai, despite the opposition and the absolute reluctance of the elephant to help, the boy managed to climb up. The elephant started tossing its trunk, the boy was also anxious and was constantly restraining it with the metal rod and was uttering learned phrases. We were lucky to a certain extent that the platform was relatively near and 2 minutes later we got down the elephant while it was carrying on being unhappy from something. Somewhere here I got enlightenment and I remembered the prediction of the old lady from the park in Bangkok for the third time. We survived again but I started wondering what would happen to us next by the end of our stay on Samui island. Here I will tell what happened in such a situation on Samui island, only 8 days later after our trekking. 36-year-old Scottish guy Gareth Crow was pushed together with his 16-year-old daughter by an elephant’s trunk while they were on a trekking. The father was killed on the spot while the daughter managed to escape. The reason for that couldn’t be detected but one of the versions was that the father was deceiving the animal with a banana and it got wild. Did that happen with our elephant, I wonder? Hmmm, we’ll never find out. But the tragic event happened only a few days after ours. That’s why I said that I had to remember then that look through the yellow eyes of the old Thai lady and her words that I would never go back home. We survived again and we got back to our little house, we had a shower, got changed and went on a walk again in Chewang with our Bulgarian friends. While we were having fish with baked corn for dinner, I told them our drama that had a happy ending. It was time to plan our next trip as we went alone again. Genuinely or not, obviously our friends did not want to be participants and witnesses of another dramatic outcome until the end of our stay in Samui. When we finished our dinner we went to the local mall for a walk together with them and then went back passing by the travel agency to book something after two days because next day was the traditional Full Moon party which we were planning to attend. The reservation was complete – for 24 January 2016 we had 2 tickets for the final destination of Ao Nang Yuan Island passing through Koh Phangan without getting off the vehicle; the package included a lunch in Koh Tao. I said the date on purpose because it would be our next, fourth big drama which I will tell you about later.
