38. Would the new day when delightful and planned activities were awaiting us be a peaceful one?
At least that's what we hoped. We hardly slept because the nighttime nightmare of thoughts of the
reptiles that were probably hanging around the house never gave us peace of mind. The morning greeted
us with great quiet and sunny weather, when we heard the thumping and movement of something several
times in one of the wooden or rather gable walls of the cottage. As the walls were hollow and quite quiet
within them this was possible. Our suspicions of something being wrong, and sleeping badly each night,
began to be vindicated. This then prompted me to go to reception and ask one of the staff to come and
check what was going on in our wall and I expressed my suspicions that it was a snake. More interesting
than my suspicion was what the person they sent to us shared. We told him what we thought, and he
confirmed in a very serious tone the following "Yes, I will come to spray now. It might be a snake, but
don't worry, there are some two metre green ones here in the complex, but they are not dangerous, and
they don't bite". You can't imagine what my wife and I were thinking at that moment. The funny thing is
that this employee at the complex did spray us with a big spray that looked more like a mosquito spray.
He tapped the wall a few times as if he knew how to expel what was there and left. Once we didn't hear
that noise anymore, we calmed down a bit, but only seemingly so as not to ruin our excursion. After half
a day on the beach, in the late afternoon we had decided to buy tickets and visit the Koh Samui Ice Bar,
which was located in Chaweng. We were already there when we were warned at the entrance that the
temperature inside was minus 7 degrees and offered one of their available costumes that would turn us
into dinosaurs, as if we were taking part in the Stone Age of everyone's favourite The Flintstones. They
would protect us from the cold inside and the great temperature amplitude coming in from the heat
outside. Our ticket included a couple of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, and the atmosphere inside
was surprisingly pleasant. A large ice bar and a bartender dressed in the same style, ice tables and chairs,
ice open cars. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable half an hour, which made us forget our troubles and
recharged us for feats and adventures, which you saw for yourself, we didn't miss at all. After this show,
accompanied by many photos and videos that we immediately uploaded to Facebook, we left for dinner,
but this time alone. We opted for the fish menu again and around 9pm, we were advised by the waiter
who served us and knew good English, to go to the Full Moon Party at the nearby Ark Bar. This also turned
out to be a very good continuation of the evening. It was packed with tourists of all nationalities and the
mood was high. I remember we ordered a Bacardi Breezer Watermelon and soaked in the rhythms of the
high house music sounding soundtrack. Traditionally, the party featured various fire show performances
that gave another positive spin to our whole day. Shortly before midnight, we caught literally the last taxi
of the itinerary and returned to our cottage in high spirits.
